Definitions for Commonly Used Phrases and Acronyms at Walt Disney World

A

ADR – Acronym for Advanced Dining Reservation.

AK – Acronym for Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park.  Watch Animal Kingdom videos

Advanced Dining Reservation – To the rest of the world, it’s just called a dining reservation. But at Disney World, you definitely want to take advantage of the “advanced” part.  Table Service Restaurants allow reservations as early as 180 days before the desired date. You can make reservations through the My Disney Experience app or by calling 1-800-WDW-Dine.

DDP – Acronym for Disney Dining Plan

Disney Dining Plan – An optional add-on to your resort stay that provides a fixed number of meals and snacks per person for every night you stay. Not necessarily a way to save money (although it can be done if you’re a super-planner), but more of a convenience and the peace of mind knowing that the bulk of your expenses are pre-paid. Note that tips are not included in plans that cover Table Service restaurants.

F

FP – Acronym for FastPass or FastPass+.

FastPass+ – Commonly know as FastPass or FastPasses. They are “reservations” for popular attractions that cut your wait times down. If you have purchased tickets, you can make up to 3 FastPass+ selections starting at 7:00 am Eastern Time up to 30 days before your visit. If you are staying at a Disney Resort hotel, you can make your FastPass+ selections up to 60 days prior to check-in for the entire length of your stay. Requires MagicBand or card to use at the attractions.

MDE – Acronym for My Disney Experience.

MK – Acronym for Magic Kingdom theme park.  Watch Magic Kingdom videos

Magical Express – Complimentary charter bus transportation from Orlando International Airport (MCO) to Walt Disney World Resorts for guests staying on property. The best way to book is at the time you make your resort reseevation. But if you don’t have your flight information at the time, you can use the online reservation form or call Magical Express at 866-599-0951.

My Disney Experience – Disney World’s official app that shows ride wait times, park maps, park hours; used for Mobile Ordering, seeing/making ADRs, FastPasses, and more.

MagicBand – an RFID reader that links to your MDE account, including your park tickets/passes, resort reservation, FastPass selections. Available for purchase on shopdisney.com and throughout Walt Disney World Resort. One per person is included if you are staying on property and can pre-ordered through My Disney Experience.

Mobile Ordering – a fast and convenient way to order food at Quick Service Restaurants using the My Disney Experience app. Requires a credit card or Disney Dining Plan to use.

Q

Quick Service Restaurant – similar to “fast food” or cafeteria style restaurants where you walk up to a counter or stand, order food and wait for it. Many Quick Service locations offer Mobile Ordering for fast and convenient service.

SWGE – Acronym for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge
